Design Concept & Stage Design

The look of the 33rd Annual GLAAD Media Awards (GMA) was inspired by the iconic GMA trophy. I wanted to let the shape of the trophy wings and metal inform the design elements. 

For the main stage, I created an architectural, streamlined design that would let the bold animation shine. The stage, which I called a “starry night cityscape” featured six LED buildings and a center screen that housed all of the vfx and graphic elements. I used reflective elements in the design that cascaded on to the stage’s high gloss flooring to create a surreal sightline that made a big statement both in the room and on camera. Behind the LED buildings a star curtain brought the whole vision together.

Additionally, I created a second duotone color story that was reserved for winner announcements and performances.
